Privacy Policy

Hey, I’m Mina Carter and I operate minacarter.com / mina-carter.com.

So… welcome to my privacy policy. This is just fancy wording to basically tell you who I am and how I deal with any information that might be collected while I operate my websites.

First up, I’d like you to know that it’s my policy to respect your privacy. Hey, I wouldn’t like my information spreading out there, so why would you? This means I’m not going to sell, rent or trade email lists with anyone. I’m just not into that sort of thing (I’d rather be writing books!). But, just so you know what’s going on, in this privacy policy, I’m going to provide lots of detailed info on when and why I collect information, how I use it, and when I might disclose it to others.

So, how do I use your data?

  • I use it to make a tailored website available to you
  • For market research purposes, so I can see which of my books you like!
  • With your permission, to send you newsletters about new releases, competitions and other offers.
  • To administer a contest, promotion, survey or other site feature.
  • To ask for ratings and reviews of services or products.
  • Where I have a legal duty or right to use or disclose your info (for example, in relation to an investigation by a public authority or in the case of a legal dispute).

Mailing Lists

As part of the signup process for my email newsletter, I collect personal information.

I use that information for a couple of reasons: to tell you about stuff you’ve asked me to tell you about; to contact you if I need to obtain or provide additional information; to check my records are right and to check every now and then that you’re happy and satisfied. I don't rent or trade email lists with other organisations and businesses.

I use a third-party provider, Mailerlite, to deliver my newsletter. Together, we gather statistics around email opening and clicks using industry standard technologies to help us monitor and improve the email newsletter. For more information, please see Mailerlite’s Privacy policy.

You can unsubscribe to general mailings at any time of the day or night by clicking the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any of our emails or by emailing me (I’m also the data protection officer for mina-carter.com) at contactATmina-carter.com.

Occasionally, I use Instafreebie and Bookfunnel to offer free books. I do not set these services to mandatory information collection.

Please feel free to view their privacy policies:

Facebook Retargeting & Facebook Tracking Pixel

This website uses a Facebook Pixel which allows us to follow the actions of users after they are redirected to a provider’s website by clicking on a Facebook ad. This lets us record the efficacy of our Facebook ads for statistical and market research purposes. The collected data remains anonymous, and we cannot view the personal data of any user collected in this manner. This information is saved and processed by Facebook.

Facebook IS able to connect the data with your Facebook account and then use that data for their own advertising purposes, in accordance with their Data Use policy (https://www.facebook.com/about/privacy/). You can allow Facebook and its partners to place ads on and off Facebook. A cookie may also be stored on your computer for these purposes.

You can object to the collection of your data by Facebook pixel, or to the use of your data for the purpose of displaying Facebook ads by contacting the following address: https://www.facebook.com/settings?tab=ads.

I use a tool through Facebook called the Custom Audience tool which enables me to advertise my books through Facebook to people who may be interested in them. This allows me to personalize my ads with Facebook. This tool lets me convert your email address (gathered if you click the appropriate box when you sign up to my mailing list) into a unique number Facebook uses to match to unique numbers generated from email addresses of it’s users. If you previously gave consent and now wish to withdraw it, email your request to me (mina-carter.com data protection officer) at contactATmina-carter.com.

Aggregated Statistics

I may collect statistics about the behavior of visitors to its websites. I may display this information publicly or provide it to others. However, I will not disclose personally-identifying information other than as described below.

Protection of Certain Personally-Identifying Information

I disclose potentially personally-identifying and personally-identifying information only to employees, contractors and affiliated organizations that (i) need to know that information in order to process it on my behalf or to provide services available at my websites, and (ii) that have agreed not to disclose it to others.

I will not rent or sell potentially personally-identifying and personally-identifying information to anyone.

Other than to its employees, contractors and affiliated organizations, as described above, I disclose potentially personally-identifying and personally-identifying information only in response to a subpoena, court order or other governmental request, or when I believe in good faith that disclosure is reasonably necessary to protect my property or rights, third parties or the public at large.

Cookies

Unfortunately, we’re not talking about the yummy kind of cookies here. A cookie on a website is a little bit of code that collects info from the person browsing the site… it’s not going to grab your bust size or inside leg measurement. Rather, it collects info on your interactions with the site. I use cookies to see which of my pages and books you guys like the best and things like what browsers you use (so I can make things look all nice and snazzy whatever you’re using!)

Cookies cannot know any personal information by themselves, you would have to enter that information onto the website they reside on and I do not use any tracking cookies (so basically you leave my site and I wave goodbye, I don’t have anything that monitors your movements after you leave me!).

Cookies also keep track of advertisements.

BUT, if you prefer not to have cookies enabled, then please… set your browser to disable them before using the site. Since browser is a little different, look at your browser's Help Menu to learn the correct way to modify your cookies. Some things might look a little hinky but you’ll still be able to use the site!

Ads

Ads appearing on any of our websites may be delivered to users by advertising partners, who may set cookies. These cookies allow the ad server to recognize your computer each time they send you an online advertisement to compile information about you or others who use your computer. This information allows ad networks to, among other things, deliver targeted advertisements that they believe will be of most interest to you. This Privacy Policy covers the use of cookies by Mina and does not cover the use of cookies by any advertisers.

COPPA (Children Online Privacy Protection Act)
When it comes to the collection of personal information from children under the age of 13 years old, the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) puts parents in control. The Federal Trade Commission, United States' consumer protection agency, enforces the COPPA Rule, which spells out what operators of websites and online services must do to protect children's privacy and safety online.
We do not specifically market to children under the age of 13 years old.
