Mina’s Privacy Policy
Privacy Policy
Hey, I’m Mina Carter and I operate minacarter.com / mina-carter.com / minacarterauthor.com / books.minacarter.com
So… welcome to my privacy policy. This is just to tell you who I am and how I deal with any information that might be collected while I operate my websites.
First up, I’d like you to know that it’s my policy to respect your privacy. Hey, I wouldn’t like my information spreading out there, so why would you? This means I’m not going to sell, rent or trade email lists with anyone. I’m just not into that sort of thing (I’d rather be writing books!). But, just so you know what’s going on, in this privacy policy, I’m going to provide lots of detailed info on when and why I collect information, how I use it, and when I might disclose it to others.
A quick legal bit: my business is run through MINA CARTER LIMITED, a UK company (registered address: 12 The Courtyard, Buntsford Drive, Bromsgrove B60 3DJ), and the data I hold is covered by UK data protection law (the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018). That makes MINA CARTER LIMITED the “data controller” for the personal information collected through my websites and mailing list — in plain English, the company (with me at the helm) is responsible for deciding how it’s used and looked after. Throughout the rest of this policy I’ll just say “I” to keep things friendly, but legally that means MINA CARTER LIMITED.
So, how do I use your data?
- I use it to make a tailored website available to you
- For market research purposes, so I can see which of my books you like!
- With your permission, to send you newsletters about new releases, competitions, book recommendations from other authors, group promotions/giveaways and other book/reader offers.
- To administer a contest, promotion, survey or other site feature.
- To ask for ratings and reviews of services or products.
- Where I have a legal duty or right to use or disclose your info (for example, in relation to an investigation by a public authority or in the case of a legal dispute).
Email Newsletter & Marketing
What to expect: When you subscribe to my newsletter (via my website, a book download, or during checkout), you consent to receive emails from me. These emails typically include:
- News and updates about my books, audiobooks, and merchandise.
- Curated Recommendations: I frequently share books, new releases, and deals from other authors that I think you will enjoy.
- Group Promotions: I participate in multi-author giveaways and promotions (hosted by services like BookFunnel) and will share links to these events.
How we handle your data (Important):
- I do NOT share your email address with other authors. When I recommend another author’s book or a group promo, I simply provide a link. If you choose to click that link and sign up for another author’s list, you do so voluntarily under their privacy policy.
- Third-Party Links: My emails may contain links to third-party websites (such as Amazon, BookFunnel, or Fourthwall). I am not responsible for the privacy practices of these other sites.
Lawful Basis for Processing:
- Consent: For new subscribers who opt-in via a sign-up form.
- Legitimate Interests & Soft Opt-in: For existing customers who have purchased from my shop, I may send information about similar products (books/merch) and relevant recommendations, provided you have not opted out.
Withdrawal of Consent: You can unsubscribe from my newsletter at any time by clicking the “Unsubscribe” link found in the footer of every email I send. This will remove you from my mailing list immediately.
I use trusted third-party providers to deliver my newsletter and digital books, including MailerLite (for emails), BookFunnel(for book delivery), Prolific Works, and Fourthwall (for my shop).

Aggregated Statistics
I may collect basic, anonymised website statistics that do not identify individual users. I may display this information publicly or provide it to others. However, I will not disclose personally-identifying information other than as described below.
Protection of Certain Personally-Identifying Information
I disclose potentially personally-identifying and personally-identifying information only to employees, contractors and affiliated organizations that (i) need to know that information in order to process it on my behalf or to provide services available at my websites, and (ii) that have agreed not to disclose it to others.
I will not rent or sell potentially personally-identifying and personally-identifying information to anyone.
Other than to its employees, contractors, and affiliated organizations, as described above, I disclose potentially personally-identifying and personally-identifying information only in response to a subpoena, court order, or other governmental request, or when I believe in good faith that disclosure is reasonably necessary to protect my property or rights, third parties, or the public at large.
Cookies
Like most websites, this site uses cookies to help it function properly.
These cookies are used for essential site features such as security, spam protection, and remembering basic site settings.
I do not use cookies to track individual visitor behaviour or for advertising purposes.
You can disable cookies in your browser settings, but some parts of the site may not function correctly if you do so.
Children’s Privacy
My books and websites are written for adult readers and aren’t aimed at children. I don’t knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you’re a parent or guardian and you think your child has signed up to my mailing list or sent me their details, just drop me a line at mina@minacarter.com and I’ll delete it.
Access to your personal information
You are entitled to view, amend, or delete the personal information that I hold. Email your request to me at mina@minacarter.com. Under UK data protection law you also have the right to ask me for a copy of the data I hold, to ask me to correct anything that’s wrong, to object to certain uses, and to withdraw your consent at any time. I’ll always deal with these requests as quickly as I can.
Data Retention
I keep personal data only for as long as necessary for the purposes for which it was collected.
Newsletter data is retained until you unsubscribe or request deletion.
Contact enquiries are retained only for as long as needed to respond and manage your request.
Where data is processed by third-party providers (such as payment processors), it may be retained for longer where required for legal, tax, or accounting purposes.
Got a Complaint? Let’s Sort It Out
I take your privacy seriously, so if you’re ever unhappy with how I’ve handled your personal information, I want to know about it. You have the right to complain, and I’d much rather hear from you directly so I can put things right.
Just email me at mina@minacarter.com with the details of your concern. I’ll acknowledge receipt of your complaint within 30 days of receiving it, and I’ll respond as quickly as I can after that, keeping you in the loop along the way.
A quick note: I use a few trusted third parties to run things behind the scenes. My shop is run through Fourthwall, which means they handle payment and order details directly — so if your complaint is about purchase or payment data, you may need to contact them too (their privacy policy is linked above). For anything to do with my newsletter or the data I hold directly, I’m your person.
If you’ve raised something with me and you’re still not happy with how it’s been dealt with, you have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), the UK’s data protection regulator. You can reach them at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113. I’d always appreciate the chance to fix things first, though.
Privacy Policy Changes
Although most changes are likely to be minor, I may change this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changing needs and legislation. I would advise that you frequently check this page for any changes. Your continued use of this site after any change in this Privacy Policy will constitute your acceptance of such change.
